With the new year fast approaching, and the desire to start 2021 off on the right foot, the Dry January movement is expected to have more participants than ever before. With one of our favourite times of the year fast approaching, we figured we would share some of the short-term and long-term benefits of partaking in a Dry January.
Dry January is a month-long campaign where participants stop drinking alcohol for the month. There are many reasons people decide to participate. Some of the more common ones include the likes of New Year’s resolutions, a greater focus on health and well-being as well as wanting a reinvigorated start to the new year. Many also use Dry January as an opportunity to reset after a holiday season filled with various indulgences (but hey, we won’t tell if you had one too many chocolate truffles).
Here at Partake Brewing, we don’t think of Dry January as a time of “giving things up” but instead giving you the freedom to partake in all life has to offer - without limits. Many people use it as an opportunity to build upon positive habits. It’s more than just a 31 day challenge. The true benefits of this month can often stretch past January, giving you an opportunity to explore various non-alcoholic options, as well as the entirety of the sober curious movement. Some people see this as a chance to start the year with a renewed dedication to fitness, dietary goals and mental health.
The biggest difficulty that many participants often face is the void in their routines that is created once they give up drinking. Habits are not easy to break and simply taking something out of your daily routine without a proper replacement can be a difficult transition. Drinking is often heavily tied into our social lives and is used to connect with friends and family. These external pressures are a big hurdle for those who want to take on a dry month. Having a proper alternative can help ease this transition while still feeling connected to others.
